Cash for crash scam reaches the end of the road!
Thursday, 19th May 2011
You've probably heard about 'cash for crash' scams, where accidents are purposely 'engineered' to either involve unsuspecting motorists or entirely fictitious incidents, so that gangs can commit insurance fraud?
Well, the good news is (for everyone except the fraudsters!) that Bedfordshire Police have put the brakes on one Luton-based scam ring in a five-year investigation which led to 33 defendants pleading guilty to offences in connection with a £5.3million insurance fraud. Three members of the ring have been found guilty of conspiracy to defraud and remanded in custody awaiting sentencing.*
Helping to make the roads safer for us all
This case, one of the biggest of its kind ever driven off the road, means that every honest motorist - who pays for such fraud through higher insurance premiums - can hopefully get back to happier, more relaxed motoring. Especially as the case is likely to prove a deterrent to others with such scams in mind.
