Is your Home as Safe as Houses?

The more security measures you take, the safer your home and its contents will be. You could also lower your insurance premiums simply by being an active member of your local Neighbourhood Watch scheme and/or having a burglar alarm covered by an annual maintenance contract.

In most cases, we do not impose a minimum security requirement, although it is sensible to ensure you have taken the best measures to secure your home and its contents. In some cases, it may be necessary for us to impose the following minimum security requirements, but you will be advised of this through the quotation process. The following are what we deem to be minimum security requirements:

  • Approved Alarms

Cost savings are possible if you have an intruder alarm maintained by a NACOSS, SSAIB or NSI approved company. If you are unsure as to whether your maintenance company is NACOSS, SSAIB or NSI approved, please check with the security company who installed or maintains your alarm or visit www.nsi.org.uk  or www.ssaib.org.uk

  • Window Locks

All windows or other openings of at least 9 inches that can be reached from the ground floor (without the use of a ladder) should have key operated looks with detachable keys or a locking handle.

  • Main Entrance / Exit Door

All external doors (except French / patio doors) you use when you go out should either have a mortice deadlock with at least five levers or a three-point multi-locking system for UPVC doors.

  • French Door Locks

All double French doors should have two key operated bolts on each door which lock into the top and bottom of the door frame and key operated security locks with detachable keys or a multi point locking system.

  • Patio Door Locks

All patio doors should have key-operated bolts top and bottom. All UPVC patio doors should have a three-point multi-locking system with detachable keys.
